STRANGERS WITH CANDY
Now here's the kind of movie I really love. A politically incorrect comedy full of off color sexist, racist and homophobic gags. Heaven.
Amy Sedaris stars as a 46-year-old crack whore who gets out of prison and re-enrolls in high school in a bid to start her life over in order to bring her daddy out of a coma.
Stephen Colbert is hilarious as a closeted gay science teacher with the wonderful name of Chuck Noblet.
Look out for glorious cameo performances by big names like Sarah Jessica Parker, Matthew Broderick, Allison Janney and Philip Seymour Hoffman.
MONSTER HOUSE
It seems weird to release a movie set at Halloween in the middle of summer but I have no problem with the familiar tricks and treats executive producer Steven Spielberg brings to this impressive animation project.
It's another one of his 'something odd in suburbia' stories as neighborhood kids discover the creepy house across the street is actually a living, breathing monster.
I actually left after half an hour - not because I was scared or bored but because I was hungry for something other than movie theater popcorn. I returned to my seat 20 minutes - and one blueberry muffin - later and didn't feel I'd missed anything.
The film builds to a clever climax but the scary final 10 minutes are guaranteed to traumatize any children under 10. Lots of cool, summer fun!
WORDPLAY
Anyone who thinks crosswords are for bored geeks with nothing better to do with their lives will have their assumptions utterly confirmed by this disappointing documentary.
I was hoping for a story as entertaining as the spelling bee movie Spellbound, but instead this look at the New York Times crossword puzzle editor Will Shortz and his dedicated fan base could be summed up in one word, six letters, meaning dull You got it. . . B-O-R-I-N-G.
ROCK STAR: SUPERNOVA, CBS, Tuesdays, 9 p.m.
I don't have any interest in reality television shows. Watching someone eat bugs, date a fake millionaire or murder a Whitney Houston song leaves me cold. But now there's finally one on these shows that even I can enjoy.
For the wannabe rock singers competing on Rock Star for the chance to front a new supergroup of rock legends including tattooed icon Tommy Lee, are mostly talented, charismatic and sexy.
Tommy hosted a party for the contestants and guests in a glamorous Hollywood Hills mansion the other night and instead of the debauched spectacle I was expecting, it was a classy affair with catering by Wolfgang Puck and impromptu performances from the singers - best of whom is Storm Large, a saucy redhead with a stunning figure and a great set of pipes.

KATHY GRIFFIN Live at the Wiltern
There is no funnier stand-up in America right now than celebrity mocking comedienne Kathy Griffin. That's because she tells it like it is - showing up celebrities for the self obsessed, obnoxious, brain dead morons so many of them are.
Her gossipy two-hour show flies by thanks to Kathy's scattergun approach of spraying insider innuendo, put downs and pokes in the eye over the egocentric headline hitters.
Star Jones, Anna Nicole Smith, Tom Cruise, Denise Richards and Ryan Seacrest came in for particularly rough treatment from the motor mouthed funny girl during her three night sellout run at The Wiltern - and I'll bet none of them saw the funny side. I am still laughing a week later!
Week number three of boot camp, and I am still alive to talk about it. This week concentrated on cardio, and weight training. Monique has designed multiple regimens for use at the gym, whether she is with you or not.

After two difficult weight days, one pilate day and 30 minutes of cardio every day in between, I feel like superwoman. The extra benefit was weighing myself and actually losing three pounds. I can't say it's a lot of fun, but it is definately working.
Monique is going to start another boot camp soon in Beverly Hills. Stay tuned for the exact location-and yes, I'll be there!

This venue was definitely a step in a different direction. Instead of just working on my body from the outside, Sheryl Bard and Gina Osher managed to engage my brain as well. Being hypnotized is a rather odd and unusual experience. You aren’t awake, and you aren’t asleep. Actually, I wouldn’t have really believed that anything had happened, except that 3 hours elapsed, and I remember a vague conversation.

| Sheryl and Gina - The Spirituality Spa |
The treatment I am describing is called “Past Life Regression”, one of many therapeutic options available at The Spirituality Spa in Brentwood. It was not at all what I had expected, as these woman were neither weird, nor bizarre looking. In fact, not even slightly off the wall. They are clearly dedicated to their work, and quite serious-albeit with a healthy sense of realism as well as humor.
The method practiced for this particular type of hypnosis was called Christos, a technique that they had modified and perfected for their own unique session. It began with me lying on a table while Sheryl massaged my forehead, and Gina did reflexology on my feet. As I began to relax, Sheryl asked me to imagine my feet were elongating as I floated through a tunnel towards light. After what seemed like only a few moments, I was asked to visualize standing in front of my front door and to describe it in detail, as well as the inside and the people living there.
Apparently some people see their childhood, some imagine another life, and some aren’t sure if they see anything. Both therapists agree that it can be difficult to know if the mind just wants to make something up, or if the client is truly seeing the purported experience. In any case, this is definitely something to try more than once, as the process seems to end as quickly as it begins-leaving you somewhat mystified about the entire thing.
Certainly I see how these woman could be profoundly helpful in dealing with clients personal issues, merely by focusing on the problems with powerful suggestions, while under hypnosis. If other therapies don’t seem to address your needs, give the Spirituality Spa a try.
