Beverly Hills People.com was on hand when Harry Winston Beverly Hills invited the world press to preview more than $50 million worth of Oscar jewels during the annual Red Carpet Oscar Collection unveiling in advance of the 78th Academy Awards. Shipped from all over the world, the starry jewels ranged from glistening green Emerald earrings to fiery red saphire necklaces.

The press was treated to a preview of what Hollywood’s hottest stars will be wearing down the red carpet at the Kodak Theater this Sunday.

For decades, Harry Winston diamonds have had a co-starring role on Oscar night but what should we expect to see this year on the red carpet?

Susy Korb, creative director of the House of Harry Winston on Rodeo Drive mentioned a  surprising development this year; many of the younger Hollywood stars will be going retro with an emphasis on classy cluster diamonds and vintage looks that harkens back to traditional Hollywood styles.

“A big piece of ice never goes out of style,”  Korb added. This year’s jewels come in all shapes, sizes, and colors ranging from 5 carrots to over 20 carrots and ranging in price from the hundreds of thousands to the millions of dollars.

Korb also noted that Awards-bound stars never actually know what they’ll be wearing down the red carpet “until they try it on”. Korb didn’t offer a prediction of Oscars results but she did expect plenty of glimmerings on the fingers of Oscar winners this year.

The House of Harry Winston has dressed more Oscar winners than anyone else in the history of the Academy Awards, a tradition that Mr. Winston began in the early 1940’s with actress, Jennifer Jones. Among the Winston-wearing celebrities in more recent years are: Halle Berry, Marcia Gay Harden, Gwyneth Paltrow, Renee Zellweger, Diane Lane, Jennifer Lopez, Billy Crystal, Kate Hudson, Salma Hayek, Ben Affleck, Whoopi Goldberg, Julianne Moore, Hilary Swank, Steve Martin, Shoreh Aghdashloo, Nia Vardalos, Tyra Banks, Queen Latifah, Sidney Poitier, Julie Andrews, Geena Davis, Sissy Spacek, Dame Maggie Smith, Emily Watson, Kim Basinger, Geoffrey Rush, Sofia Coppola, Jada Pinkett Smith, Glenn Close, Mira Sorvino and Steven Tyler.
